About
I am a mostly self-taught artist working in multiple mediums. As a child, I frequently visited ceramic shops with my mother and was always making things.
My fascination with clay began in college in the 1980s, where I discovered my love for forming and building with it. I typically create functional art. Twenty five years later, with the encouragement of my husband, I bought my first pottery wheel, making my dream a reality. I’ve spent time with local artists taking throwing lessons as well as a few years of studio lessons with James Makins at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
While I initially focused on throwing and hand-building, I stumbled upon the world of slip casting when a stranger offered molds for free. That stranger has since become a great lifelong friend who continuously fuels my passion for ceramics and pottery. It’s safe to say that mold collecting has become an addiction! What started with a few free molds has grown into hundreds, along with a full studio and a new mold shed. My amazing husband has built a home-based area for my studio and all the molds I’ve acquired.
I began my artistic journey in web design and graphic art, but on the side, I explored various art forms, including crocheting, sewing, quilting, embroidery, 3D printing, and more recently, resin printing and 3D CAD design. I have a deep passion for art and crafting; I love transforming nothing into something beautiful and making others happy with my finished pieces. I continually seek out new techniques and enjoy incorporating various designs into my handmade pottery and ceramics.
Each piece I create is made one at a time, and I take pleasure in working with textures, stamps, and tools—many of which I’ve made through 3D printing. I love experimenting with new glaze combinations to finish my pieces, and I especially enjoy the challenge of creating something special for custom orders.
My relationship with clay is heartfelt, and I sincerely appreciate your support for my art. Thank you for taking the time to explore and be part of this creative journey.
The studio is named for our original “Bad Dog” named Kane, a beautiful monstrous Cane Corso Mastiff. Since Kane, many pups have filled our lives, and our current bad dog herd hangs out either in the studio or sunning themselves on the steps in front of the door. They are all skilled in quality control!
With gratitude and much love,
Candace
